First 1000 Days

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life have a profound impact on a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive – and a lasting effect on our province’s health and prosperity.

We need to strengthen our programs offered to new families to ensure that our children get the best start in life. This includes proper nutrition, proper access to health care, childcare, and adequate programming. When parents and children need assistance in these early days, government should be able to provide early interventions to assist children in reaching their full potential by offering support.

I’m committed to working with front-line staff from all sectors, parents, communities and professionals to ensure we strengthen the programs and services being offered to children and young families in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.
With the proper nutrition and services for children in their first 1,000 days we will:
➡️Build a child’s brain and fuel their growth;

➡️Improve a child’s school-readiness and educational achievement;

➡️Reduce disparities in health, education, and earning potential;

➡️Reduce a person’s risk of developing chronic diseases; and

➡️Break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
When we set our children up for future success, we all benefit.
